Welcome to Sterling McClellan American Legion Post 142
A Home for Veterans. A Haven for Families. A Heart of Community.
Nestled in the heart of Pompano Beach, the Sterling McClellan American Legion Post 142 has stood for generations as a place where veterans, families, and neighbors come together in fellowship, service, and shared purpose. Our story began in 1946, when the McClellan family donated this beautiful property in honor of 1st Lt. George Sterling McClellan, U.S. Army Air Corps, who gave his life in the European Theater of World War II. His legacy of courage and sacrifice lives on in everything we do.
For more than eight decades, Post 142 has been a steady, welcoming presence—a safe social harbor where veterans find camaraderie, families find support, and the community finds a partner ready to serve. From the earliest days after World War II to the vibrant Post you see today, our mission has never changed: to honor those who served by continuing to serve others.
A Legacy Rooted in the American Legion’s Mission
Founded in 1919 and chartered by Congress, the American Legion was built on four pillars: Veterans Rehabilitation • National Security • Americanism • Youth Mentorship
Post 142 proudly carries these pillars forward. Through countless volunteer hours, community programs, and acts of quiet kindness, our members have strengthened the lives of veterans and families throughout Pompano Beach and Broward County for generations.
The Post 142 Family
What began as a single Post has grown into a unified and spirited American Legion Family, including:
-
Sons of the American Legion Squadron 142
-
American Legion Riders Chapter 142
-
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 142
Together, we share one mission: to serve veterans, support families, and uplift our community.
We are also honored to stand alongside our affiliated partners:
-
Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Gold Coast Chapter 133
-
Marine Corps League Detachment 1058
Each brings its own strengths, traditions, and service to the greater good.
A Place Built by Generations of Hands and Hearts
Post 142 is more than a building—it is a living testament to the dedication of every member, volunteer, and friend who has walked through its doors since 1946. Their efforts, big and small, have shaped this Post into the warm, welcoming home it is today.
To all who have served, supported, and stood with us across the decades: Thank you. Your commitment keeps the spirit of Post 142 alive.

Honoring Our Namesake
Our Post stands on a remarkable piece of Pompano Beach history. The property was generously donated by the McClellan family in honor of 1st Lt. George Sterling McClellan, U.S. Army Air Corps, who gave his life in the European Theater of World War II. His courage, sacrifice, and devotion to country remain at the heart of our mission.
